A 33-year-old man will see in the New Year behind bars after a court heard he breached his bail to take money to his penniless family on Boxing Day.
The Keighley man, who is awaiting sentence for assaulting his ex-partner and their teenage son, broke an order not to visit them when he took round £100 to see them over Christmas, magistrates were told yesterday.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, pleaded guilty to beach of bail and was held in custody until he is sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on January 9.
Prosecutor Paul Ramsay told Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court he had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to assaulting his former partner and causing her actual bodily harm and common assault on his teenage son.
He was bailed on condition that he did not go round to the address where the mother and her children lived.
Police acting on a tip-off arrested him in the living room at the house in Keighley late on the morning of Boxing Day.
He told officers: “I have just come to see my kids.”
Mr Ramsay said it was “a blatant breach” of bail and asked that the man be remanded in custody.
His solicitor advocate, Amjid Khan, conceded that his client had been “a complete fool.”
But his ex-partner kept ringing him to say she had no money for the rest of the Christmas break.
“She had nothing left at all and they would have to go through the holiday period with no money. It was a costly mistake for him,” Mr Khan told the court.
He said the woman invited the defendant round and she did not tell the police he was there.
She had £100 in her hand, given to her by the man, when the police arrived.
Mr Khan said the man had already spent a night in custody and it was “a lesson well learned.”
But the magistrates ordered he stay behind bars until he appears at the Crown Court for sentence.
