Year four pupil Tyler Manley – who is in hospital recovering after having a brain tumour removed – has been given a special Christmas present.

Fellow pupils at Glusburn Primary School have raised money to buy her an iPad mini.

And they are also hoping to bring some Christmas cheer to other patients on ward 52 at Leeds General Infirmary where Tyler was initially treated.

They were spurred into action by Tyler’s mother, who noted there was a lack of good-quality toys on the ward.

Since September, they have held a number of fundraising events including bun sales, a wear-a-wacky-hat day and a collection at the key stage two carol service which brought in a total of £616.

“The whole school community have truly overwhelmed me with their generosity,” said headteacher Richard Hunt.

As well as buying the iPad mini for Tyler, the money has been used to purchase a sackful of presents for ward 52. These include games, a DVD player with DVDs, a wooden doll family and a train set.
