Residents of Lidget Green, Bradford, have been warned that a boy seeking sponsorship money is a fraudster.
A boy was seen knocking on doors in the area asking residents for sponsorship on Tuesday.
He claimed that he was doing this on behalf of his school and that it was for the Salvation Army or other charitable organisation.
A Police spokesman said: “His tale was false and the male is believed to have fraudulently obtained an amount of money by doing this.
“It is know that he managed to obtain this money from a number of local residents.
“Remember, if you are not sure if a caller at your door is genuine then ask for ID, don’t let them in, don’t give them money and if possible check anything they say to you by contacting their office/organisation.”
Anyone with information should contact police on (01274) 376788 or ganpt5@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
