Pupils at Bradford Grammar’s Junior School have been doing the equivalent of cycling a stage of the Tour de France, climbing Mount Everest, running a marathon and swimming the English Channel in aid of children’s charity Variety.

The pupils chose an activity and either swam in the pool, ascended the climbing wall, rode on exercise bikes or ran.

Donations after their Christmas concert will also be going to the charity which helps make life a little easier for children who suffer from sickness, a disability or who have been born into a life of poverty.

Neil Gabriel, headmaster of the junior school, said: “A wonderful end to the term, the swimmers swam the channel there and back, Mount Everest was scaled and we broke the world record for the marathon, the rowers rowed Lake Windermere, the cyclists completed the first leg of the Tour de France in preparation for next year. What a fantastic effort by all pupils.”

Last year Variety helped more than 4,500 children in Yorkshire to achieve greater independence, freedom and the opportunity to enjoy a wider range of childhood experiences. Nationally, it helped more than 80,000 children.
