Toy Story 3 (BBC1, 3.20pm) Year released: 2010

What’s It About? Set years after the first two movies, a grown-up Andy is now off to college, so Buzz, Woody and the rest of his legendary toys are bagged up and sent to the local children’s centre where they are soon at the mercy of riotous kids.

Is It Any Good? As ever with this groundbreaking saga, the animation is superb and the pacing is excellent, but where the movie really succeeds is in its assault on the heartstrings.

The last 20 minutes will leave you either perched on the edge of your seat or blubbing like a baby.

Anything Else? Look out for in-jokes from other Pixar movies, including Up, Cars, Wall-E, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo.

It won two Oscars: Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song (for Randy Newman’s We Belong Together), and Best Animated Feature Film of the Year.

Character voices: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, John Ratzenberger, Joan Cusack, Timothy Dalton Tangled (ITV, 3.20pm) Year released: 2010

What’s It About? A baby princess’s hair has mystical powers, so an evil witch kidnaps her and locks her in a tower, so she can use the magic to keep herself young.

When the princess is a teenager with 70ft long tresses, she escapes with the aid of a bandit and goes in search of her home.

Is It Any Good? This animated comedy based on the Rapunzel story is great fun for all ages, not least because of Alan Menken and Glenn Slater’s song I See the Light, which won a Grammy Award.

Anything Else? Glee veteran and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth was the original choice to play the heroine.

The original title Rapunzel was changed to Tangled in the hope it would attract more of a male audience. Disney’s previous movie The Princess and the Frog was a financial disappointment, so the marketing team were keen to make this appeal to as many folks as possible.

Starring: Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman, Richard Kiel, MC Gainey, Jeffrey Tambor, Brad Garrett

Michael Jackson’s This Is It (Five, 9.30pm) Year released: 2009

What’s It About? Hastily constructed from hundreds of hours of backstage and rehearsal footage, Kenny Ortega’s documentary is a glowing tribute to the King of Pop as he prepared for what would have been one of the most spectacular live shows of his career.

The rehearsal footage, shot predominantly at Staples Center in Los Angeles and The Forum in Inglewood, California, features him performing the likes of Bad, Jam, Billie Jean, Beat It, Black and White and a delicate version of Human Nature.

Is It Any Good? At times, Jackson looks painfully gaunt as he strives to perfect each arrangement, but for the most part, the film captures a musician at the height of his powers. The fact it grossed a whopping 260 million dollars worldwide proves that fans were willing to forget the doc’s fast-tracked nature and shortcomings.

Anything Else? The footage was originally shot so that the concert’s creative team could analyse and possibly alter aspects of the show. Jackson also intended to archive it in his personal library.

Starring: Michael Jackson
