There are no plans to change a new city-centre bus shelter criticised by passengers for being the wrong way round, transport authority Metro says.
The new-style ‘supershelter’ has been constructed in Market Street, Bradford. It is one of three extra-long shelters on the street, but the only one to have been installed to open out onto the road, rather than separating passengers from it.
Passengers said it gave them little shelter from the elements. All three shelters have also been criticised for creating confusion when more than one bus pulls up at them.
Councillor Geoff Reid (Lib Dem, Eccleshill), a member of the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority (Metro), also raised his concerns about the shelters. But a Metro spokesman said they had only received three complaints between October 1 and December 13 and that the shelter was installed correctly and safely.
