A would-be robber violently forced his way into a home in Idle after stalking a householder as he walked back from the pub.
Police are appealing for information following the attempted robbery, which took place in Dunkhill Croft at 11.30pm on Friday.
The victim was walking home from Idle village when he was approached by another man on Idlecroft Road.
The suspect asked for money claiming he needed to call someone to pick him up and then asked to borrow the man's mobile phone.
The victim refused and continued walking to Dunkhill Croft, where the suspect again approached the man as he entered his house and followed him in.
A struggle took place before the intruder fled when the man shouted at him.
The suspect is described as Asian, around 20 to 25 years old, about 5ft 10 ins tall and of average build. He was wearing dark jeans and a lighter coloured coat with the hood up. He also had a broad nose and was unshaven.
