Hundreds of Christmas revellers packed Haworth’s Main Street last night for the village’s annual torchlight procession.

Starting at the bottom of the street, the procession worked its way up the world famous cobbled road before ending at the parish church.

Along the way carols were sung and those who braved the wet weather enjoyed Morris dancing and music from various local groups.

The Haworth Christmas Committee had 300 battery lit lights ready for the crowds, but these were soon snatched up, and they believe almost 500 people took part.

Mike Hutchinson, one of the organisers, said: “It was absolutely brilliant. Despite the rain people had smiles on their faces. It could have put a real damper on things, but nobody seemed to care.

“We have been established for a long time so people come year after year.”
