Popular children’s author Melvin Burgess has been sharing secrets of his craft with Bradford youngsters.

The writer took part in a session at the City Library on Thursday, reading from one of his books to an audience of pupils from schools.

The visit was one of a series of events being held to mark the opening of the library in Centenary Square after its recent closure due to health and safety issues.

“The children got the chance to meet Melvin and talk to him about his books,” said Dionne Hood, development officer for reading and stock. “It went down really well.

“People like to see an author and ask questions about where they get ideas for stories.”

A week-long line-up has included craft sessions, poetry and reading groups and street theatre. More events are in the pipeline with other authors set to visit the library to talk about their work.
