A man was reported to the police for suspected drink- driving after a minor collision, magistrates heard today.

Kevin Poulter, 38, stopped and suggested a garage for paint repairs to the other driver following the collision on Cawder Bridge, Skipton, at 7.30pm on Monday, November 18, Skipton court heard.

But the other driver noticed that Poulter, of Chapel Street, Carleton, near Skipton, smelled of alcohol and called police.

Poulter was traced to an address in nearby Bradley where he answered the door to police and admitted straightaway he had been driving, the court was told.

He provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to the police station where he was found to have 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Poulter, who admitted drink-driving, was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £320 with costs of £85 and a victims surcharge of £32. If he completes a drink drivers’ rehabilitation course by January 25 his ban will be cut by 20 weeks.
