Budding young stars of the screen and airwaves have been showing adults just what they can do at their primary school’s new state-of-the-art studio.
Youngsters at Miriam Lord Primary School in Manningham were proud to present The Hub to parents and other guests from the community at an open day on Thursday.
The radio station and green screen facilities are believed to be the first of its kind in a Bradford primary school and was funded by the school.
Every child will get the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment and older children in year six have already been trained to teach others how to use it.
Pastoral manager Taslim Afzal said The Hub will be used as a teaching resource across the curriculum and involve youngsters working together across the class years.
She said: “There's lots of different projects going on, it’s not just a one-off. We have older children writing scripts and younger ones choosing different backdrops to use on the screen and then other doing the acting. It’s all very exciting.”
The Hub has been built in the middle of the school site so it can be easily reached by all year groups.
“It’s fantastic to see how the children are building up all sorts of skills as well as confidence,” added Mrs Afzal.
The open day was organised by the school’s new parents’ and carers’ association.
Headteacher Bryan Harrison said: “The Hub is a unique area for a primary school and has been developed as an inspirational learning zone, where children can develop skills that will support them when they move into the real world.
“Areas such as the radio station, and our animation zone, provide opportunities for children to develop their language and communication skills. The facilities are pioneering and purposeful facilities.”
This area has also captured the interest of other schools locally and nationally.
