Delighted head teacher Mary McAndrew credited a ‘great work ethic’ for her school achieving a major accolade in new school league tables.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Bingley has been named top performing primary in the Bradford district with 100 per cent of pupils passing reading, writing and maths tests.

“We are really lucky,” said Mrs McAndrew. “We have very supportive parents, wonderful children, a great work ethic and dedicated staff. And that is what it is all down to.”

She said, though, that all other schools are working hard to achieve results.

St Joseph’s did particularly well in new grammar and spelling tests introduced this summer. The children notched up 90 per cent pass rates at levels four and five.

“We usually do well,” said Mrs McAndrew. “This is a lovely school and I am so proud of what has been achieved.”

She praised year six teachers Sinead Lister (English) and Louise Robinson for guiding the pupils through the tests.

Harden Primary School was also among the district’s top-performing schools. Head teacher John Davie said he was “absolutely delighted”.

“The fantastic results we have achieved this year are down to excellent teaching, support from home and a creative and stimulating curriculum,” Mr Davie said.

“And it’s not just about the class teacher – it’s due to good teaching throughout the school.”
