Hardy outdoor swimmers will get their last chance of the year to sample the chilly water of Ilkley Lido in a Christmas Dip on Sunday, December 22.
The Friends of Ilkley Lido and Bradford Council set up twice-weekly Winter Swimming Club sessions for the most hard-core outdoor swimmers after the outdoor pool’s summer season ended in September.
The final Winter Swim for club members takes places on Sunday, December 15, but the Denton Road pool will open one last time in 2013 for a special Christmas Dip, from noon to 2pm the following Sunday.
But anyone who fancies a refrshing dip is advised to be prepared for water temperatures of around 5 degrees Centigrade - and wetsuits with neoprene gloves and socks are stringly recommended.
The dip is restricted to over 18s only, and swimmers are advised to acclimatise themselves to the water, and leave the pool if they feel uncomfortable at any time.
Help will also be on hand to warm up afterwards, however - as teas, coffees, and bacon sandwiches will be available.
Entry will be £4.30 for the non Winter Swim club members.
