An innovative charity scheme at a Saltaire cafe has received a boost after securing the backing of Yorkshire Building Society.
Vicars Café Bistro in Victoria Road, received £250 from the YBS to help with its Suspended Coffee project, which allows customers to buy an extra coffee, cake or lunch which can be enjoyed later by someone in need.
The donation will help to provide more than 160 coffees or about 55 lunches.
Hannah Rebecchi, a customer consultant at YBS’s Shipley branch, said: “We’re committed to supporting local good causes that benefit the communities where our members live and work, so when I saw the Vicars’ scheme one weekend, I knew I wanted to support it.
“It’s great that the scheme will help many people in need, and it’s nice to think that a warm drink or hearty lunch will be most welcome by members of the community who need it as we approach the winter months.”
The donation was made from the company’s Community Investment Fund, which was set up to help local good causes.
Vicars manager Matthew Adams said: “The donation from Yorkshire Building Society will go directly towards helping people in our local area, so we can’t thank them enough.”
