Two Bradford music promoters are joining forces to select some of their favourite folk artists to play at an event combining musical traditions.
The Music at Bradford University programme and The Topic, which lays claim to being the UK’s longest-running folk club, present Folk Narratives; a matinee of folk music and storytelling at the New Bradford Playhouse.
The event is headlined by The Family Elan and Qawwal Party, a meeting of the psychedelic avant-garde and traditional devotional music.
Bradfordian multi-instrumentalist Chris Hladowski collaborates with local British-Pakistani musicians, and also performing is Mary Hampton and Sam Barrett who has spent recent years touring America and the UK with his brand of ‘Yorkshirecana’ roots music.
Also performing is Gerrard Bell-Fife, delivering melancholic songwriting, and local performers Eddie Lawler and Roger Davies.
Folk Narratives takes place on Saturday, December 14 from 2pm-9pm. Promoter Andy Abbott says: “I’m excited to bring superb artists together in a beautiful space and hope it attracts a diverse audience to see something new coming out of the tradition of folk music. I’m flattered to be working with Tony and Topic – they’re a crucial part of the musical history of Bradford.”
Tickets are available from brad.ac.uk/music.
