Festive fundraisers donned jolly jumpers and posed for paparazzi to support a teenager with a rare condition which affects his breathing.
Harry’s Appeal and breast cancer charity The Haven will each receive at least £675 following the Christmas jumper party in Idle, Bradford.
The owner of Cheesy Christmas Jumpers, who organised the charity night, said he hoped the final total from the fundraiser would be £1,500, after £1,350 was collected at the event.
Paul Everett said: “We had 74 guests on the night – we were hoping for somewhere between 60 and 100, but we probably couldn’t have fitted any more in.”
Every guest who arrived at the party at the Moo Restaurant and Highfleld Hotel in Idle was greeted by fake paparazzi and walked a red carpet.
Reindeer racing, a raffle and photo booth helped raise the cash, which will be split equally between the two charities. Harry’s Appeal supports Harry Beck, 15, who suffers with a form of myotubular myopathy, which weakens the muscles controlling breathing. A pupil of Benton Park School, Rawdon, Harry is mainly fed through a feeding tube and has to use a wheelchair.
The money raised will help towards travel costs for Harry’s regular visits to Great Ormond Street Hospital and hospitals in Bradford, Leeds and Manchester.
Mr Everett said the teenager was on good form at the celebration.
“Harry had a great time. He had his light-up Christmas jumper and stayed until about 11.15pm,” Mr Everett said.
Harry’s father, Gary, said: “It was a fantastic night – I’m sure it’s what everybody else has said.
“Everything went well and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
“He loved it. He took part in the reindeer racing and did well coming second – he thought he was going to win, then somebody pipped him.”
He added: “I’d just like to say a really big, genuine thank you to Paul and Mark and their families – I know they spent a lot of time planning it.”
Mr Everett hopes to arrange another event next year.
