A piece of Cullingworth’s local history has now been officially unveiled at a school.

Pupils attended a ceremony at the name board from Cullingworth Railway Station, which lay abandoned for decades following the station’s closure in the 1950s.

The 16ft-long sign – rescued by rail enthusiasts Alan Whitaker and Richard Kunz – was restored and sited in the grounds of Cullingworth Primary School this summer.

Mr Whitaker said: “The sign has now been painted in a tangerine colour, which was how it looked in its last few years of service.”

Cullingworth Primary head Kate Sutcliffe said: “It is a great honour to have the sign in our grounds, and for it to be a continuous reminder to the children of the history we have on our doorstep.”
