Police have started a Christmas campaign and say becoming a victim of crime can be especially distressing during the festive period.
North Yorkshire officers, who cover the Skipton area, say they are combining education and enforcement as part of the scheme which is running from the end of November until the New Year.
A Christmas Safety AllWrappedUp Smartphone app provides crime prevention advice and tips on staying safe and North Yorkshire Police will also be tweeting daily crime prevention messages.
The main focus is on personal safety, protecting property and drink and drug driving.
Chief Constable Dave Jones, above, said: “Christmas is a time for celebration and enjoying time with family and friends, however it is important that we all take our own safety and security seriously to ensure that the festive season is as enjoyable as possible.
“Taking time to ensure that your homes and cars are secure from criminals and making sure you get home safely from nights out is especially important at this time of year.”
