Boxer Amir Khan has hosted a sell-out fundraising dinner in Bradford to help victims of the Philippines' typhoon disaster.
The event at the city centre’s Hilton Hotel last night sold all 500 tickets in just two weeks.
It was the idea of Heaton labour councillor Rizwan Malik who said organising it was a “a lightbulb moment” in response to such a terrible tragedy.
All the money raised will be chanelled to those needing help through the Islamic Relief Foundation’s Phillippines Appeal, said Coun Khan.
He said: “It really was a lightbulb moment.
“I had to do something to help and the charity dinner idea just came to me in a flash.
“I knew Amir already did a lot of work to support charities and I knew he was setting up his own trust so I invited him to help us.”
The boxer's Trust once up and running will support needy projects both here in the UK and in countries stricken by natural disasters.
Among guests supporting the event were Rafiq Mohammed from Manninhgam and his son Adil Rafiq, 18, who were delighted after getting the boxing star to sign a glove.
