Children from one of the district’s schools enjoyed an action-packed residential trip to the Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire and a trip to the National Coal Mining Museum en route.
Following their experience of a working pit, the children from Ghyll Royd School, in Burley-in-Wharfedale, set off to their chalet at Dearne Valley for two fun-filled days.
They learnt the practicalities of survival with bush craft and how to make a fire. They put trust in their friends as they tackled the dizzy heights of Jacob’s ladder, a test of their confidence in one another. They also attended a drumming workshop, toasted marshmallows and composed their own music.
Jo Jenkinson, head teacher at Ghyll Royd, said: “Trips are an important addition to the school curriculum and an important part of their learning journey. Everyone had a tremendous time.”
