A Twitter feed belonging to a self-professed “creep” who posted photographs he had secretly taken of women’s bottoms has been removed from the social network site.
But the company says it cannot comment on the user or their activities to protect their privacy.
Police are currently trying to identify the person behind the account, who took photos of women in Bradford without their knowledge and posted them for the world to see.
The account has now been removed from Twitter, less than a week after being set up, and just a few days after the Telegraph & Argus ran a story on the Tweets.
Some of the images on the feed were taken up unsuspecting young women’s skirts, while others were of their cleavage or bottoms. The pictures are mostly of women in Bradford or Leeds, with several referred to as students.
Describing themselves as a lover “of the female form” the user encouraged fellow “creeps” to send him similar photos which he would display on his feed.
Twitter said it could not reveal whether it had removed the account, or comment any further on it.
A spokesman said: “I’m afraid we can’t comment on individual accounts for privacy reasons.”
Despite the feed being shut down, police are still investigating the issue and whether anyone could be charged under a public order offence.
It had already attracted a number of followers before it closed, one of which messaged the account saying: “lovely pics – well done.”
Detective Inspector Ben McDonald said: “We have been investigating this offence and local neighbourhood policing team officers and club and pub door staff have been briefed to be aware for this type of behaviour.
“Police continue to encourage anyone who see’s a person using a mobile phone to take indecent pictures in this manner to contact the police on 101.”
Since the story, a previously arranged march has taken place in Bradford city centre to protest against the sexual harassment women face on a day-to-day basis. Attended by more than 150 women and men, the “reclaim the night” march was a partnership between Bradford University, the student union, Bradford College and the Women’s Forum.
