A Bradford schoolgirl has been raising funds for the city’s Marie Curie Hospice in memory of her grandmother.

Chloe Farndale, 11, decided to raise cash for the Leeds Road care centre, where 83-year-old Florence Farndale died after a 24-hour stay on April 14.

“I used to spend lots of time with my grandma, baking and gardening and I really wanted to do something for the hospice in her memory,” she said.

“I’ve been collecting all my spare change and asking other people to do the same.”

Florence used to help out at Automotive Consulting Engineers Ltd, and Chloe has also asked the staff there to add their spare change to her collection.

In total, she has raised £75.22.

Chloe’s mother Mary Farndale said: “We decided to take the money raised to the hospice on Thursday, October 24, as it would have been Florence’s 84th birthday.

“I’m really proud of Chloe for doing this in memory of her grandma.”

“Taking the donations to the hospice on what would have been Florence’s birthday has made the day more memorable for us both.”

Hospice community fundraiser Helen Rowlands said: “Chloe has done a brilliant job of collecting donations in memory of her Grandma. It’s a really thoughtful way of remembering Florence whilst also supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care.”

Mary is keen to carry on supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care in the area and will be helping to establish a new fundraising group in the BD4 area of Bradford.
