Scouts from Menston tasted Army life when they visited the 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. The 25 boys and girls visited the Keighley TA Centre, where they were put through their paces by a drill instructor who rapidly taught them the difference between left and right.
They then tried on various items of equipment, such as helmets, body armour and tested the weight of the webbing and rucksacks soldiers typically carry. They also had a go on radios and used the ‘Airsoft’ mock-ups of issue-rifles which are used in recruiting. The visit was hosted by the Company Commander, Major Paul Hindmarch.
