Keighley MP Kris Hopkins has backed a new package of government measures to improve patient safety in the NHS.

The measures have been announced in the wake of the Staffordshire Hospital scandal and following the final report of the Francis Inquiry, which made 290 recommendations.

Government proposals include a requirement for hospitals in England to publish ward-by-ward staffing details every month, and quarterly reports on how they are handling complaints. And there will be the introduction of a criminal offence of wilful neglect. Mr Hopkins said: “What took place at Staffordshire Hospital cannot be allowed to happen again.”
