Keighley Area Committee has approved changes to the zebra crossing outside Silsden Town Hall.
The Bradford councillors rejected two objections to the plans to build a plateau for the crossing on busy Kirkgate.
The objectors claimed that raising the level of the road at that point could pose a danger to pedestrians, both on the crossing and the adjacent pavement.
The work ties in with the £300,000 refurbishment of Silsden Town Hall, which includes the installation of an access ramp on the pavement alongside the crossing.
Council officers insisted the plateau was needed to make it easier for people with wheelchairs and pushchairs to navigate the crossing, pavement and ramp.
The objectors claimed the narrowing of the pavement and addition of a ramp could lead to problems.
