Three of Bradford College’s most talented students have been named ‘best in the UK’ at their chosen skill.
Emma Harrison, 30, Aisha Queeum, 28, and 19-year-old Chris Hanson won gold medals at the WorldSkills UK competition held at the NEC Birmingham.
They were among more than 700 of the UK’s top apprentices who battled it out in 70 competitions, ranging from forensic science to floristry.
Emma came top in nail enhancements, while Aisha won gold in media make-up. Chris was deemed best in construction metal works.
Bradford College principal Michele Sutton said: “We’re absolutely delighted that our students have accomplished so much and offer them our hearty congratulations.
“It takes hard work, determination and a high level of skill to compete against some of the UK’s most talented apprentices and learners.
“This event showcases and celebrates the high levels of talent entering the UK’s workforce.”
WorldSkills UK competitions inspire young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level.
Skills and enterprise minister Matthew Hancock said: "Skills are vital to the future of our country and it’s great to see so many talented young people taking part and demonstrating their expertise.
“I hope the winners will inspire others to begin learning a new skill which could lead to a new career and then to become the stars of tomorrow.”
The College trio may now be eligible to compete for a place in the team that will represent the UK at WorldSkills Sao Paulo in 2015.
