There are just a few weeks left to nominate outstanding teachers, staff and schools for the Telegraph & Argus School Awards.

Created to celebrate the best Bradford’s education system has to offer, the awards include 12 categories, chosen to honour a wide variety of students, teachers and everyone who contributes to making their school a success.

Although nominations have been flooding in for many of the categories, we still need more entries for four very important categories.

Voluntary Contribution Award – sponsored by Morrisons This award is for the people who devote their time by volunteering to make a school a better place. They can include governors, parents or anyone who is dedicated to the school for no greater reward than the furtherance of the school.

Do you know someone who organises a school fair to raise munch needed funds for a school? Or volunteers their time to help in the classroom? This award is to recognise their hard work.

Innovation Award – sponsored by Denso This category is a celebration of any new idea that has had a major impact on a school and its pupils. We want nominees who thought outside of the box and turned an idea, no matter how simple, into a new way of learning. Often it takes drive and vision to push forward with such a change, and this award will go to someone who had that vision and acted on it.

Achievement Award – sponsored by Randstad Education The achievement award is to celebrate either an individual, team or entire school that has produced a superb result this year. It could include improved academic results, the success of a school sports team or achievements in music or other extra curricular activities.

Don’t be shy – we need schools and parents to shout out their achievements.

Science and Technology Award -– sponsored by the University of Bradford With technology changing at a phenomenal pace it is up to our schools to make sure the future generation is ahead of the game. This category recognises the teaching of the sciences at both a primary and secondary level, and will go to a teacher or school that takes this complex and constantly changing field and finds new ways to make it exciting for pupils.

The closing date for entries is Monday, December 16.

Once the closing date been reached a panel will pour over the nominations and the shortlist for each category announced in February.

Among those already nominated for an award is a new teacher, Sofia Yaqub, who has been successful in her first year in the classroom.

Fellow teachers at Marshfield Primary School, on Thornton Lane, nominated the 34-year-old for the Newcomer of the Year award, created to highlight the achievements of people new to the profession.
