Firefighters turned out to the scene of an horrific “crash” – but there was no cause for panic.
A crew from Bingley carried out an exercise demonstrating how casualties are cut from the wreckage of crashed cars.
More than 80 students took part in the initiative at Keighley Campus Leeds City College, staged as part of activities to mark Road Safety Week.
Tom Rhodes, fire service prevention manager for Bradford district, said: “We fully support the campaign, which plays a vital part in educating people as to the consequences of a crash and how important it is that they drive responsibly.”
Between April and September this year, firefighters attended 62 road traffic accidents in Bradford district. The crashes resulted in 42 injuries and six deaths.
Council road safety officers, police and an Accident & Emergency consultant were present to talk about their roles.
Becky Collier, student liaison officer, said: “The road safety team was really impressed with the group of students who attended the hard-hitting session.”
