A grandfather died from head injuries after coming home ‘tipsy’ from a friend’s cafe and falling down the stairs.
An inquest in Bradford yesterday heard how Georgio Devittoris, 75, of Manor Drive, Cottingley, Bradford, had come home after spending the afternoon of October 11 this year with friends at Franco’s in Saltaire.
His grandaughter, who lived with him and his wife Jean, had described how he had returned ‘tipsy’ but not intoxicated when she saw him and had later seen him asleep sitting upright in his room.
Sometime later she heard him start to move about and heard him on the stairs.
She saw him fall down the steep stairs – she called paramedics but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Assistant Bradford Coroner Mary Burke recorded a verdict of accidental death.
