All Bradford councillors have been reminded not to access unsuitable material on Council computers, following the revelations surrounding the Rev Paul Flowers’ resignation.
Council leader David Green said he had asked the City Solicitor this week to write to all Council members to remind them of its IT policy.
Chief executive Tony Reeves said: “Bradford Council has an IT acceptable-use policy that applies to all councillors, employees, temporary and agency staff, sub-contractors and consultants who use the Council’s IT systems.
“The policy sets out a whole range of rules governing the use of any interaction on IT systems and expressly states that unsuitable websites must not be accessed unless they are relevant to a person’s role.”
He said failure to comply with this policy would be regarded as serious and any breach was likely to lead to investigation and disciplinary action.
He said: “A breach of this policy by an elected member may be referred to Internal Audit or the senior manager responsible for information. A serious breach of this policy by an elected member will be referred to the Council’s Monitoring Officer (City Solicitor) if it appears to also be a breach of the Members’ Code of Conduct.”
