The Conservative group on Bradford Council has named Councillor Mike Gibbons as the city's next Lord Mayor – as long as he gets re-elected in 2014.
The Ilkley ward councillor has been designated to take over the role from Lord Mayor Councillor Khadim Husssain next May.
Coun Gibbons has already served a stint as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2012 and has been a parish councillor for 22 years.
He is also chairman of Bradford Council's Health & Social Care Overview Committee and is a former chairman of the Keighley & Ilkley Constituency Conservative Association.
Coun Gibbons was selected at a Tory group meeting and group chairman, Councillor Dale Smith, who was Lord Mayor when Coun Gibbons was deputy, said he is confident he will do an “excellent job”.
Coun Gibbons said: “I am honoured and delighted that the Conservative group has chosen me, subject to re-election in 2014, as Lord Mayor Designate.
“I look forward to representing and serving all of the people of the Bradford district.”
