A £700 contribution helped Haworth Parish Church ensure its historic clock could be re-wound.
Earlier this year the church allowed the clock to stop because of work required within the tower to make access safe for the volunteer clock winders.
The church had completed a £237,500 refurbishment of the building’s south roof in 2012, but faced an additional £700 bill for the safety work in the tower.
The Haworth-based Brunswick Chapter of Freemasons responded by submitting a bid for cash from the First Grand Principal of Yorkshire West Riding’s charitable fund.
The chapter learned this month that its bid was successful, and has now presented a £700 cheque to the church.
The Rev Peter Mayo-Smith, priest-in-charge at the parish church, said: “We were delighted with the help offered.”
