Staff at a Bradford girls’ school have been praised for improving exam results and going above and beyond to help their pupils succeed.
Belle Vue Girls’ School in Thorn Lane, Heaton, has been nominated for the “School Improvement Award” in the Telegraph & Argus Schools Awards.
The category is dedicated to schools that have shown a significant improvement in the past 12 months, and gained its nomination in part due to this past summer’s exam results.
This past year the school achieved notable A-level and GCSE results, with the number of girls getting top grades at A-levels increasing, despite grades in general falling across the UK. The improvements were greatest in the sciences.
Naseem Hussain, whose daughter attends Belle Vue, felt the school deserved to be recognised for its achievements over the past year.
In her nomination she said: “Since my daughter started this school I have watched her grow into a beautiful, confident young person.
“Teachers are always helpful, even out of school hours they will provide help. They allow individuals to flourish independently. I honestly couldn’t ask for more.
“As a parent I know my daughter is safe and well looked after, nurtured but pushed to her full potential.
“The school exam results keep getting better, and all I can say is that the necessary and sufficient conditions are provided for each and every girl to get what she wants from her education.”
The school is an academy and specialist language and science college and has about 1,200 students.
Head teacher Mary Copeland said staf would be very pleased to hear a parent had recognied the hard work going on in the school.
“We’re delighted to be nominated for this award. Over the last five years results in all areas have improved, particularly the progress students make,” she said.
“In the summer of 2013 we achieved some of the highest grades possible at A-levels and this has been down to the staff, students and the supportive nature of our parents.”
