A woman described as the “spirit” of her community is this year’s Gerry Pickersgill Award winner.
Clayton resident Christine Tomlinson was given her prize last night at The Octagon at Sandbeds, near Keighley.
The award is made annually by Bradford District Federation of Tenants and Residents and Incommunities in memory of a dedicated housing manager who died in 2000.
Sixty-four nominations came in for individuals and groups across the district. The nominations were judged by a panel of representatives from Incommunities and the District Federation.
Christine is the chairman of the Clayton Estate Community Action Group and received glowing nominations praising her dedication, commitment and tireless work serving her community.
This included organising activities, helping people access subsidised family holidays and fundraising work.
One nomination said: “She’s the spirit of the Clayton community and makes peoples’ lives and the estate a better place to be.”
Special recognition prizes also went to Crossflatts Over- 50s Club, the Committee of Ormond House and Incommunities’ Customer Inspectors.
