A Menston secondary school is involved in a campaign to become a Fairtrade school.
Earlier this year St Mary’s held a Fairtrade fortnight to encourage students and staff to campaign for greater access to Fairtrade products locally.
St Mary’s has worked closely with a number of external groups and has attended the Leeds City Council Fairtrade Schools celebration, in conjunction with the Leeds Development Education Centre.
Jack Tunnecliff, the staff member responsible for the application, said: “The students and staff have worked really hard towards achieving Fairtrade School Status.
"The challenge is to continue this work by educating our families, our neighbours and the wider community about this essential work.
“Fairtrade is about knowing that when you buy Fairtrade items children have not been exploited, farmers have not been disadvantaged financially and the communities that produce the product have been given additional money for education or health.”
