A new alcohol support service has been launched.
Primary care workers will provide help to GPs across the district, for people concerned about their drinking.
The £200,000 pilot is being funded by the Bradford, Airedale, and Wharfedale and Craven clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).
Alcohol workers will be available to see patients who GPs feel would benefit from extra support and advice. Up to six sessions are offered, depending on needs.
If the GP believes there is an immediate need to get more intensive support, they can make a fast-track referral to an assessment hub run by the charity Lifeline Project.
Dr Graham Sanderson, the CCGs’ clinical specialty lead for alcohol, said: “Tackling the harm caused by alcohol is a top priority for us, and we are committed to working with partner agencies to stop the rise in the number of people suffering health and social problems due to its misuse.
“I’m pleased that the new funding from the CCGs is starting to make a real difference where it’s needed most – at primary care level.”
