Charity chief executive and Ilkley resident, Anne Longfield, has been admitted to the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of her 25-year career championing the needs of children and families.
The honour was conferred at a private ceremony held at the Guildhall in London.
As chief executive of 4Children, Mrs Longfield has worked with successive governments persuading them all that their policies would be more effective, more popular and have more impact if they invested in children and families.
Over the last ten years, under her leadership, 4Children has grown to become an award-winning charity for change.
It now runs more than 90 children’s centres, which offer innovative support for children and families; nurseries and out of school clubs; young people, including youth activities at RAF bases; and family support for troubled families.
Pip O’Byrne, chairman of 4Children, said: "We are delighted that Anne has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London, acknowledging the outstanding work she has done to help improve the quality of life of London's children and families.
“She has a real connection with families, translating what they say they need into a policy voice that is listened to by decision makers and key influencers.
“Listening to the voices of London's families, 4Children will continue with its work to support families and help them flourish."
