The Bradford Music and Arts service has teamed up with music companies to boost the local music scene and help young artists develop their career.
Factory Street Studios in Bradford and the Musicians’ Centre Jam on Top in Keighley are the driving force behind the new initiative, called the Gig Academy, aimed at helping up-and-coming acts to gain knowledge and experience.
“We’re very excited to be able to put even more energy into enriching Bradford’s already thriving music scene,” says Alex Eden, from Factory Street Studios.
The Gig Academy will mentor six bands/artists in performance, technical challenges and recording. Each successful band will go through a programme of developing vocal technique, performance and stage presence, and there will also be technical help on areas like sound and setting up equipment.
The programme will culminate with a produced studio recording and live gig at the Exchange Arts Centre, Keighley, which is part of the Musicians’ Centre.
Auditions to take part in the Gig Academy are on January 14, 2014 and February 3, 2014.
Acts must be 18 or younger, living or educated in the Bradford district.
