Two award-winning actors are reunited in the latest offering from Weeton and Huby Players – and the trophy they won will also feature prominently in the production.
Chris Corkill and Chris Holland again play a married couple in Eric Chappell’s comedy Wife After Death, after clinching the Telegraph & Argus trophy at this year’s Wharfedale Festival of Theatre awards for the production of Jim Cartwright’s two-hander Two, which saw them each portray seven characters, including spouses.
Wife After Death is a fun-filled romp from the writer of Rising Damp, with the action based around the funeral of ‘national treasure’ comedian Dave Thursby, followed by the disposal of his ashes – which will be contained in the trophy. The plot reveals that neither family nor close friends knew Dave as well as they thought, with hilarious consequences.
Directed by Pauline Moulsdale, Wife After Death marks the debut appearance by Wendy Bennett alongside regulars Alison Muffitt, Heather Goring and Max Costantini.
Players’ chairman Neil Muffitt said: “We were delighted to once again be recognised at the Wharfedale Festival and when we were considering what to use for Dave’s ashes in Wife After Death couldn’t think of a more appropriate container than our latest trophy.
“We have a highly experienced director and a strong cast, audiences can look forward to a fun-filled evening.”
Wife After Death runs at Almscliffe Hall, Huby, from November 21-23, at 7.45pm. For tickets call 07976 831256 or e-mail tim.bennett@btconnect.com.
