A dog died in a “severe” fire at a house in Queensbury today.
The pet Alsatian had gone upstairs to escape the ground floor blaze, but succumbed to smoke that filled the property, firefighters said.
Firefighters from Odsal and Fairweather Green stations were called to the two-storey terraced house on Naseby Rise at 9.30am after a passer-by spotted smoke billowing from under the property’s eaves.
Odsal watch commander Andy Mason said the cause of the fire was under investigation, but added that it was possibly sparked by a tumble dryer that was left on after the homeowner went out to work.
He said: “It was a severe fire on the ground floor. The hallway, airing cupboard and front door were damaged by fire, and the rest of the house was heavily smoke-logged.”
Mr Mason also had a fire safety message. He said: “Do not leave electrical appliances on when you go out.”
