West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has slammed the actions of reckless youths who threw fireworks at crews on Bonfire night, including those in Manningham while crews were trying to put out a spate of car fires.

As well as responding to numerous bonfire-related calls, crews from Fairweather Green and Bradford stations reported three incidents suspected to be deliberate.

The first was on Bertram Road at about 8.30pm, when a red Audi on the back of a car transporter was set alight, the second was at St Mary’s Road at 9.15pm to deal with a van that was on fire and the third was at 10.25pm, when a Vauxhall Insignia was set alight on the forecourt of Marlborough Garage in Carlisle Road.

Dave Walton, Assistant Chief Officer, said: “Our firefighters do a difficult job already, and routinely face hazards when protecting life and property.

“The fact that some individuals choose to either throw or release fireworks in their direction whilst they are working is both sickening and dangerous.”
