War heroes who flew out of Yeadon were remembered in a service at Leeds-Bradford International Airport.
Members of the 609 (West Riding) Squadron and families laid wreaths today to mark Remembrance Day at the squadron’s two memorial sites in the airport terminal.
Airport Chaplain, the Reverend Richard Dimmery, led the service before wreaths were laid by John Matley, 83, of Leeds, who served in the squadron from 1951-53.
The Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron was formed more than 80 years ago and began its flying history at the old RAF station of Yeadon.
Mr Matley said: “It is very important to remember people who have died serving their country and I feel honoured to be able to lay this wreath.”
