Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe has spoken about why he wears his poppy with pride in the run-up to Remembrance Day.
Mr Sutcliffe (Lab) said: “The reason I, alongside so many others, wear a poppy on my lapel is straightforward: there is no greater sacrifice than laying down one’s life in defence of this country.
“So many have done so, and so many will continue to do so, without fear of the consequences, in the years and decades to come.
"Wearing a poppy is one way I am able to honour the memory of those who have fallen.
" It is also, one way, I am able to pay tribute to those in the Armed Forces who, day in, day out, risk their lives so selflessly, so courageously.
“Without doubt, the Royal British Legion’ Poppy Appeal stands proud as one of this country’s great institutions.
"Simply put, it is part of our national fabric, and renowned throughout the world.”
