The Conservative Group on Bradford Council has condemned a plan to close seven children’s centres throughout the district.
The plan forms part of the Labour-led adminstration’s budget proposals, which aims to cut total spending by £89 million over two years.
Councillor Glen Miller, leader of the Conservative group said: “I am surprised that when both Labour and Conservative governments have gone to great lengths in recent years to encourage the provision of children’s centres, we are seeing provision in Bradford decimated.
“It does not surprise me however that it is the children’s centres that are in areas which do not traditionally vote Labour are the ones that are being closed.”
He said he would be writing to Councillor Ralph Berry, executive member for children’s services, with his concerns.
