Students at Bradford College took part in a demonstration against council cuts in youth services at Bradford City Hall yesterday.
More than 50 protesters gathered outside before going inside to voice their opinions at the meeting of the Council’s executive.
The students had marched from Bradford College holding banners and wearing home-made T-shirts declaring ‘Cut our youth service, restrict our future’.
President of Bradford College Students’ Union, Piers Telemacque, 21, said: “We are here to show the Council that there is a massive need to keep youth services and they shouldn’t be cut from the budget.
“A lot of these kids do not have a good home life and if the Council takes away our youth services there will be no one to spot the early warning signs."
The Students' Union at Bradford College organised the event ahead of the meeting.
After the meeting Mr Telemacque said: “I recognise that the blame is not entirely with the Council, the Tory government is forcing it to cut a lot of vital services.
“The next step is to get some of the councillors up to college to speak to the young people who came here today and try to come up with ideas where the cuts should be made.
“We understand that this is just the consultation process and we are going to be here every step of the way until they make the final decision in a couple of months.”
