Concerns have been raised about lack of gritting during a recent cold snap.
The drop in temperatures on Sunday night led to high roads around Haworth being icy and ungritted, says a local councillor.
Coun Rebecca Poulsen (Con, Worth Valley) said some residents rang her with complaints of slippery roads early on Monday morning. “I had a few reports of ice on some of the high parts around Leeming and Denholme and it seems the roads had not been gritted,” said Coun Poulsen.
“The council is supposed to watch the weather and grit in advance,” she added.
Julian Jackson assistant director for highways, planning and transportation said: “We monitor the forecast for road surface temperatures to help us to make decisions about when to grit. The forecast for road surface temperatures was to drop, then to rise again by the end of the night. The roads were mainly dry so ice was not expected which led to the decision not to grit.”
