Omega Proteins has complained of two articles about its animal rendering plant at Denholme published on 19 and 23 September. Omega Proteins says as follows.

“Omega Proteins has always complied with the odour conditions of its permit.

“The Council has visited the site 141 times in response to 191 complaints. No breaches of the odour boundary conditions have ever been found.

“The planning application for a third bio-filter bed was made in March 2013 and was to improve the efficiency of the site. The bio-filter bed is the best available technique. This was accepted by the Council when it granted the application in October 2013, following Omega’s report on all other available techniques and technology.

“The Telegraph & Argus has now accepted that it mistakenly attributed statements to Omega in its articles. Omega Proteins has never said, admitted or accepted that its bio-filter beds were not able, or barely able, to cope with its operations.

“Omega is always working to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of its plant.”
