More than 200 jobs would be axed at Kirklees Council under a cost-cutting plan.
The Council’s Labour-led Cabinet has unveiled its proposals for 2014-15, which includes the loss of the equivalent of 201.1 full-time posts at the authority.
Road maintenance, school lollipop patrols and public toilets also face huge cuts.
The plan would save an extra £21 million in 2014-15, on top of £62 million in cuts already been identified.
And the plan would also see reserves of £6.7 million used to plug a funding gap.
Members of Kirklees Council’s Cabinet will consider the proposals tomorrow. If approved, a consultation would begin on Monday before the budget is finalised in February.
Kirklees Council leader Mehboob Khan said: “By working on a one-year budget now, and proposing the use of some reserves, we can effectively take more time over some of the major decisions we are expecting for the following two years.”
The proposed cuts in Kirklees include the axeing of the vacant post of assistant director for the Children and Young People Service, following the merger of the children and adult services, saving £103,000.
The budget for highways repairs would be slashed by 30 per cent, saving £1.4 million. Ten school crossing patrols would also be axed.
