More than 50 students protested outside City Hall this morning about huge cuts planned for the district’s youth services.

The rally, organised by the Students' Union at Bradford College, saw protesters march down from the college campus chanting slogans and waving banners.

Many wore t-shirts reading ‘Cut our youth service, restrict our future’.

President of Bradford College Students’ Union, Piers Telemacque, 21, said: “We are here today to show the council that there is a massive need to keep youth services and they shouldn't be cut from the budget.”

The demo was held ahead of a key Council meeting, where its decision-making Executive decided to take its latest cost-cutting plan to the next stage - a three-month public consultation.

The plan aims to save £89 million from the Council’s budget over the next two years, and includes slashing its youth services funding by 79 per cent.
