An offender doing unpaid work at a cafe opposite a police station has won praise from officers for his baking skills.
Talib Hussain, 38, was ordered to do 140 hours of work for the community after he was caught in possession of cannabis with intent to supply it. Hussain was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, at Bradford Crown Court in February and ordered to do the unpaid work.
But three months later, police found two small bags of cannabis at his home in Moresby Road, Woodside, Bradford, and he was charged with possession of the Class B drug in breach of the suspended sentence.
Hussain’s barrister, Giles Bridge, told the Crown Court that police from Lawcroft House in Bradford had been “very complimentary” about Hussain’s baking skills. Judge Colin Burn praised Hussain, a father of five young children, for doing well on the order.
He imposed 20 more hours of unpaid work and sentenced him to a six month conditional discharge for possession of cannabis.
